Lake Tapps | planning together for tomorrow
Community Planning Results for Lake Tapps
to be Unveiled at Public Meeting March 16

The saying is that it takes a village to raise a child. Pierce County elected officials, Lake Tapps homeowners, fire and rescue teams, parks staff, the cities around the lake, the Sheriff and Cascade Water Alliance found out that's pretty much what it takes to manage the activities around, in and on Lake Tapps.

Since the initial public meeting in January, all of the entities that have any role or responsibility on, in or around Lake Tapps sat down together to take a look at the community's needs, resources and next steps. Like everywhere around the country, public resources are strapped, and Lake Tapps is no different. As Pierce County, the Sheriff, Parks, the cities of Bonney Lake, Buckley and Sumner, fire and rescue, homeowner associations around the lake and Cascade, the new owner found out, the needs exceed resources. But the group will come back to the community with recommendations on how to address some of the wants and needs identified during the planning process. Read Full Story >

Cascade will manage Lake Levels in
March and April for Maintenance

In order to implement needed repairs to the Barrier Dam at Buckley and complete testing of the upgraded and refurbished Fish Screens, Cascade will be actively managing the level of Lake Tapps over the next two months. Residents can expect to see lake levels drop approximately two feet over the next few weeks.

Beginning in late March, lake levels will rise quickly – four to five feet by early/mid-April. Full recreational levels are expected on or before April 15, 2011. Cascade, in coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), state and federal fishery agencies and the Muckleshoot and Puyallup Tribes, will be making repairs to the Barrier Dam beginning in late February.
