Good News on Lake Tapps Water Quality

Good news to share about the water quality in the Lake Tapps Reservoir!  The recent observations of water discoloration and odors were investigated and found to be caused by golden algae that commonly bloom in the spring.  Blooms of golden algae produce odors, but not toxins.  Tests for blue-green toxic algae and fecal coliform were negative.  If you see something that looks like toxic algae, please take a photo and send it to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department at TappsWise@tpchd.org.
