Lake Tapps Reservoir Levels Continue to Drop with No Relief in Sight

Cascade Water Alliance takes its commitment to manage the water levels in the Lake Tapps Reservoir seriously. Cascade continues to staff operations around the clock to ensure that water will be diverted to the reservoir if it becomes available from the White River. The White River and the reservoir are like many other water bodies in the state experiencing low flows and lower than normal water levels due to the statewide drought.

Cascade’s state-granted water rights do not allow any water diversions to the reservoir when the river is below certain levels, called minimum instream flows, like it is now. The forecast is for continued warm and dry weather, and water levels in the reservoir are expected to continue to drop. As of July 31, the reservoir level is 541.28 feet. With no relief in sight, reservoir levels could be a full foot lower by the end of August.

We have been notified that Bonney Lake closed the Allan Yorke Park boat launch as of July 27. Pierce County Parks announced it will close North Lake Tapps Park boat launch on August 14. Given the continued drop in water levels, residents should monitor reservoir levels and make appropriate decisions regarding watercraft and other property.
