Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Rebate Program

Requirements

  1. You must submit an application and receive approval before starting your project to be eligible for a rebate.
  2. The property must be served municipal water by one of the following cities or water districts: City of Bellevue, City of Kirkland, City of Redmond, City of Issaquah, City of Tukwila, Sammamish Plateau Water, Skyway Water & Sewer District.
  3. The conversion area must be living, maintained lawn.
  4. The grass in the conversion area must be completely removed and replaced with native or drought-tolerant plants.
  5. The conversion area must also be covered by mulch, wood chips, and/or living groundcovers (this will reduce water loss due to evaporation). Plastic, concrete, and other impermeable materials are not allowed.
  6. If the property is watered by an in-ground irrigation system, the zone that waters the conversion area must be decommissioned or converted to drip irrigation. If part of a lawn is converted, remaining sprinklers must not spray the converted area or create runoff.
  7. Watering systems (if used) must be drip irrigation with a filter, pressure regulator, and emitters rated at 2 gallons per hour or less. Systems must be free of malfunctions and leaks.
  8. A minimum of 100 square feet of grass must be removed for single-family residential projects, and a minimum of 500 square feet of grass must be removed for non-single-family projects (i.e. commercial, parks, houses of worship, multi-family, etc.).
  9. If the approved project is completed per the Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Guide, Cascade will provide a rebate of $1 per square foot of removed grass, up to $500 for single-family residential projects and up to $1,000 for non-single-family projects (i.e. commercial, parks, houses of worship, and multi-family, etc.).
