Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Rebate Program

Requirements

You must submit an application and receive approval before starting your project to be eligible for a rebate.
The property must be served municipal water by one of the following cities or water districts: City of Bellevue, City of Kirkland, City of Redmond, City of Issaquah, City of Tukwila, Sammamish Plateau Water, Skyway Water & Sewer District.
The conversion area must be living, maintained lawn.
The grass in the conversion area must be completely removed and replaced with native or drought-tolerant plants.
The conversion area must also be covered by mulch, wood chips, and/or living groundcovers (this will reduce water loss due to evaporation). Plastic, concrete, and other impermeable materials are not allowed.
If the property is watered by an in-ground irrigation system, the zone that waters the conversion area must be decommissioned or converted to drip irrigation. If part of a lawn is converted, remaining sprinklers must not spray the converted area or create runoff.
Watering systems (if used) must be drip irrigation with a filter, pressure regulator, and emitters rated at 2 gallons per hour or less. Systems must be free of malfunctions and leaks.
A minimum of 100 square feet of grass must be removed for single-family residential projects, and a minimum of 500 square feet of grass must be removed for non-single-family projects (i.e. commercial, parks, houses of worship, multi-family, etc.).
If the approved project is completed per the Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Guide, Cascade will provide a rebate of $1 per square foot of removed grass, up to $500 for single-family residential projects and up to $1,000 for non-single-family projects (i.e. commercial, parks, houses of worship, and multi-family, etc.).

Wait until you receive a confirmation letter from Cascade before beginning your project.
Contact Cascade when the project is complete.
Cascade may perform a site inspection prior to issuance of a rebate.

I’ve attached at least two photos of the existing landscape in the project area.

If I currently have an in-ground irrigation system, I will decommission the irrigation system or disconnect the part of the irrigation system that supplies water to the project area or convert the irrigation spray heads to drip irrigation. If I don’t have an irrigation system, I will not add one unless it is drip irrigation with a filter, pressure regulator, and emitters rated at 2 gallons per hour or less.

By participating in the Cascade Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Program and accepting the rebates provided, I agree to maintain the converted area grass-free as long as I own the property. I release and hold Cascade Water Alliance harmless from any and all claims, injuries, damages, liabilities and causes of action that may arise out of removal of grass from my property and/or the purchase, installation, and/or use of water-efficient devices in connection with the Cascade Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Program. I understand that if not maintained correctly, the installation of replacement plants may not live or result in reduced water use. By participating in the Cascade Lawn Be Gone: Grass Removal Program, I give permission to my water utility to provide information about my water use to Cascade Water Alliance, as long as I own the property.*
